There I was, talking with Lisa Port 8 years ago, trying to convince her that my company was da bomb and she should give us a shot at building her projects. Shortly afterwards I joined APLD, started building projects with Lisa a year later, and now I am completely vetted to fetch stuff for her whenever she points her finger. I’ve made it!
My name is Kevin Monohan and I am our new Washington chapter president.
I’ve been very fortunate and quite honored to follow Katie Weber into this presidential role. I plan to continue in the same way that Katie has led us; being present at our events, contributing and helping where I can, and being approachable and a good listener for any member who wants to be heard.
There are nearly 90 of us in our chapter right now. I know most people, though there are plenty of folks who I have yet to meet. Maybe we can change that over the next couple years. I look forward to connecting with people over the Google groups, our regional pods, our mini-symposiums, and my favorite - the national conference.
Something worth noting is that I am not really a landscape designer. I used to do it regularly when I did design/build. Now mostly what I do is run a company that builds other designers’ landscape projects. Admittedly, I don’t really share the same trials and celebrations that most of you do each day. However, I have built projects with many of you (Lisa P., Katie W., Lisa B., Courtney O., Barbara L., Gretchen B., Janine A., Kim R., Cameron S.) which offers me a unique and, I think, valuable perspective. As a builder it may seem like I should go hang out with other contractors, but APLD is definitely my jam. I love the culture of educated, artistic people helping each other grow and be happy.
To finish, I’d like to introduce you to our 2020 APLDWA board. Please feel free to contact any of us. We are here for all of you.
