Join us for Tree and Stone, a two-location program that explores the art and practical realities of specifying two of the most enduring elements in the landscape: specimen trees and natural stone. Through presentations and on-site discussions, you’ll gain valuable insights into selecting, sourcing, specifying, and installing these essential materials.

At Ohashi Specimen Trees, Anne James, MLA of Anne James Landscape Architecture, will share her approach to selecting and specifying specimen trees—exploring how form, scale, character, and placement shape memorable landscapes. David Ohashi and his team will provide an insider’s perspective on tree availability, sourcing, transportation, handling, and installation—offering practical knowledge that helps designers translate their vision into successful built projects.

At Marenakos Rock Center, Anne will discuss the design possibilities of natural stone, from selecting materials that complement a site’s character to effectively presenting stone options to clients. David Ohashi and members of the Marenakos team will round out the conversation with contractor and supplier perspectives on material selection, availability, fabrication, logistics, and installation techniques.
Whether you’re refining your specification skills or looking to deepen your understanding of how these materials move from concept to construction, this program offers a unique opportunity to connect design intent with real-world implementation.
We will meet at the park-and-ride next to Marenakos then carpool to Ohashi Specimen Trees.
