Harnessing the Power of Investment

Give Back!
That’s a theme we see everywhere today—from GoFundMe pages filled with stories of those needing a helping hand, to volunteer opportunities throughout our communities, to matching funds that make great things happen.

In my time with APLD, some of my most fulfilling experiences have come from connecting with others about best landscape practices, thoughtful plant placement, new ideas, and community involvement. Community is the key word here. We can all get busy with our own schedules and projects throughout the year, but one meaningful way we can come together is to GIVE BACK.

Can you remember when you were immersed in your landscape design studies—or perhaps another program focused on the landscape industry? Did you have support from others? A mentor who helped shape your vision of what your design career could be? Were you encouraged to join an association of like-minded professionals?

Let’s take a moment to remember our mission:

“To advance the profession of landscape design and to promote the recognition of landscape designers as qualified and dedicated professionals.”

One exciting way we live out that mission is by investing in the next generation of designers. Last year, our generous members made it possible for APLD-WA to award a $1,000 scholarship and two student memberships to deserving recipients from Lake Washington Institute of Technology. That small gesture made a meaningful impact on a potential new member of APLD.

Please join us at the Holiday Party on December 7th as we recognize this year’s recipient, Kelly Govan. She will be attending the event—come say hello and welcome her to our community!

Later this year, there will be another opportunity to invest in our next scholarship recipient. Be thinking about how you might contribute to the growth of future designers. No donation is too small—or too large!

Sponsorships Are Key to Our Success

Our key sponsors provide substantial support to help us achieve our goals each year. Take a moment to visit our partners at apldwa.org/currentsponsors. These valued partnerships help fund our programs throughout the year, and our sponsorship committee is continually working to bring value both to our members and to our sponsors’ businesses.

As we move into the heart of the fall season, think about how you can make a difference by giving back—connect in person, check in with a colleague, share a tip with a new designer, or recommend a sponsor. A stronger connection leads to a stronger association.
