APLDWA Garden Takes Two Awards at the Flower & Garden Show:
The 2010 Northwest Flower & Garden Show was a big success, and APLDWA is proud to announce that their garden 'Your Hidden Garden Discovered: Collaborate With a Landscape Designer' won a gold medal and the Seattle Homes and Lifestyles Magazine 'Best Design Award'. The garden also won a third award, 'Fred Palmer Garden Creator Award' which is voted on by the Show's garden creators and exhibitors. The garden was designed by the APLDWA design team, Daniel Lowery, APLD; Barbara Lycett, APLD; Octavia Chambliss and Susie Thompson.
The garden features creative use of materials: limestone walls, lumicor backdrop and faux water feature, tiger wood decking, and rusted metal. Their beauty and functionality make the garden warm and inviting and blend seamlessly with the plant materials.
Congratulations to APLD member Jessica Bloom of NW Bloom. Jessi co-created another award winning garden entitled, "A Family’s Little Garden in the City." This wonderful garden realistically demonstrated how a family can live sustainably in the city. Jessi won the People’s Choice Award as well as a gold medal and gave presentations on "Rain Wise Gardens" and garden renovation, "Renovation 101 for Black Thumbs."
Award-winning designer and APLD member Cameron Scott of Exteriorscapes designed a container garden for the show, "Eye of the Beholder: Redefining the Function of Forgotten Objects."
There was a strong APLD-WA presence at the popular Northwest Flower and Garden Show Seminar Series. Award-winning landscape designer and author Vanessa Garner Nagel, APLD, of Seasons Garden Design presented on "Understanding Basic Design Principles." Exteriorscapes' Betsy Anderson was also at the show, presenting a seminar on designing a garden to complement your home, "A Garden for Every House." New APLD member Meghan Fuller gave seminars on "Pruning 101" and "The Right Stuff: How to Get your Plants Off to a Good Start."
